Note

This is a compilation of Chanmyay Sayadaw's Dhamma talk given on different occasions. Basic Instructions…Very Briefly was given during the Vassa, 1992 for the benefit of two Japanese university students who practised in Chanmaya Yeiktha then for a couple of days. Additional Instructions contain supplementary points which meditators will find useful. The next Talk, Noting Thoughts is about one of the important objects of Vipassana Meditation. Unless we can note thoughts very well, our progress in meditation may be hindered by prolong thinking, imagining or analysing. Pain As It Really Is is a compilation of different talks given during Vassa, 1991. Pain is such a distinct object that it is called the yogis' close friend and also the key to the door of Nibbana. Paticca Samuppada is about how we can experience the working of Paticca Samuppada in meditation.

When a meditator has a lot of mental distractions and restlessness in the course of his meditation he could switch his practice to Samatha meditation to 'take shade under a tree'. In Anapanasati, Samatha or Vipassana Meditation?, it is explained how Anapanasati can be either a Vipassana or Samatha Meditation object. Another Samatha Meditation object is Metta Bhavana which is described in Metta Bhavana Part 1 & 2. Progress of Insight Part 1, 2 & 3 describe some of the result of Vipassana Meditation a meditator can experience, stage by stage.
